Gay, Mayo help Grizzlies hold off Warriors

Basketball Betting Lines

11/08/2008 - Oakland, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Rudy Gay scored 23 points and rookie guard O.J. Mayo had 20 points and nine rebounds as the Memphis Grizzlies held on for a 109-104 win over the Golden State Warriors.

Hakim Warrick scored 19 points and grabbed 10 boards for the Grizzlies, who topped the Warriors for the second time in five days, after a win in Memphis on Monday. Darrell Arthur added 13 points and 12 rebounds for Memphis, which improved to 3-3 on the season.

Stephen Jackson scored 27 points for the Warriors, who have dropped four of six to start the season. Andris Biedrins had 23 points and 12 rebounds, and Kelenna Azubuike added 21 points for Golden State, which rallied from down 12 points in the fourth quarter to take the lead, but still fell to the Grizzlies for the second time this week.

Memphis pulled away early in the fourth quarter, only to see the Warriors come storming back. A Gay pullup jumper pushed Memphis ahead 93-81 with 8:13 left in regulation, but Biedrins powered a comeback. He scored five straight points, part of an 8-0 run that pulled the Warriors within 93-89.

Mayo made one-of-two free throws for a five-point lead, but consecutive three- point plays from Azubuike and Biedrins pushed the Warriors ahead 95-94 with 5:39 to play.

Mayo answered with a pullup jumper, though, and four missed Golden State free throws -- two by Jackson, to by C.J. Watson -- hurt the Warriors' chances. A layup by Jackson pulled the Warriors within 101-98 with 1:19 left, but Gay drilled a three-pointer from the corner with 55.8 seconds left for a six-point lead.

The Warriors cut to within three on two Jackson free throws with 15.5 seconds left, but Mike Conley made two free throws with 15.1 left. A Jackson three miss at the other end sealed Golden State's fate.

Golden State held a 30-28 lead after the first quarter, and took a 50-48 edge into halftime. The Grizzlies came back to build an 81-74 lead entering the fourth quarter.

Game Notes

Officials ruled a Gay three-pointer with 8:13 left in the fourth quarter was actually a two-pointer, thanks to expanded instant replay. The shot was ruled a three initially, but referees checked replay during the next stoppage, saw that Gay's foot was on the line, and took a point off the board for the Grizzlies, dropping their lead to 93-89 with 6:46 left...Memphis outrebounded Golden State 55-41.

Matt Kenseth And Kevin Harvick Favorites To Take NASCAR Nextel Cup Championship

(September 15)—The NASCAR season has hit the homestretch with the opening event on this year’s Chase for the Cup taking place this weekend at the Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire International Speedway. With 10 races remaining to determine the Cup Series champion, leading online sportsbook MySportsbook.com today announced odds on all 10 Chase qualifying drivers capturing the NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship.

One of the largest sportsbook sites on the Internet, MySportsbook.com currently lists the top two drivers in the point standings as the early favorites to win the Nextel Cup. Entering the Chase for the Cup with a slim five-point lead in the point standings, 2003 NASCAR champ Matt Kenseth has been made a slight favorite to win his second Cup at 7/2 betting odds. 2001 Cup Rookie of the Year Kevin Harvick has betting odds listed at 5/2 and four-time NASCAR champion Jeff Gordon is listed at 6/1 to capture the Nextel Cup this year.

Hoping to follow in the footsteps of his legendary father who won six NASCAR titles, Dale Earnhardt Jr. stands at 8/1 to breakthrough with his first Cup victory. Staying with the family theme, MySportsbook.com lists 2005 Rookie of the Year Kyle Busch at 14/1 to succeed big brother Kurt’s 2004 NASCAR title. While Kasey Kahne was the final driver to qualify for the Chase with a third place finish last week, the oddsmakers give him a fighting chance at 10/1 mainly due to several mile-and-a-half tracks remaining on the schedule. Despite going winless on the NASCAR circuit this season, Jeff Burton enters the Chase at 5/1 to capture the Cup title. Meanwhile, rookie Denny Hamlin is 4/1 to win the championship, while veteran driver Mark Martin enters the Chase for the Cup as a 15/1 long shot to win his first NASCAR title in his 24th and final season.

MySportsbook.com will offer comprehensive Nascar betting lines on every race remaining on the Nextel Cup series including driver match-ups, props and odds to win each race. For a complete list of NASCAR odds, please visit www.MySportsbook.com.
